The journey of life

 Mitten theme plays

'Don't get all mad and flustered, have a spot of apple custard, you'll be just fine, its mitten time. No need to feel all temperamental there'll soft and warm and fluffy and gentle, You're dressed just fine, its mitten time. You're right on time, its mitten time, its cotton time, you'll be just fine'

One day 'Fish' from the planet Wiggi Wiggi was flying in his spaceship 'Banana Burps', Through the space we call 'outta space', not too far above Mitten Land, When all of a sudden his 'Gib-o-lator' went wonky, a Gib-o-lator is something that made his space ship fly

Out of the window of his ship Fish could see a beautiful blue and green planet. 'how lucky I am', he thought, a planet below, Thinking that this seemed like a good place to land he set about landing Banana Burps

Through the clouds, down the ship flew, soon Fish could see a small town; he wondered what kind of people lived there, What adventures could I have? Will they like me? Will I meet a new friend?

Down, down the ship descended - gliding thru the air, the Gib-o-lator was struggling at this point and Fish had to keep Banana Burps steady

The last few seconds of landing were fairly shaky, and in truth the ship landed with a bit of bump and a crash, a thud, a bang and a wallop

Thump! The Fish had landed, but where? As steam poured out of the Gib-o-lator, Fish suddenly noticed a blue light flashing,

what was this?

Under the flashing light was a word, and the word was 'yappy-yappy-no-no'. And as you know, this means that the universal translator machine was not working. So wherever Fish was, he will not be able to talk to anyone

Although, again, as you know Wiggi Wiggi ones can sing in any language, so if they sing on this planet, all will be OK

As Fish stepped out of his ship he thought, 'this is one step for a Fish, but a bigger step for all Fish kind'

Before he opened the ship door, Fish took a flower from his collection; the flower was a 'Oookie mi flookie', and a symbol of friendship

As the steam from Banana Burps stopped, Fish locked his ship with a special code, he sang a song to the lock,

'banana banana don't open, even if I'm broken, don't let others in, don't let them win, banana banana don't let others get the chance to play, don't let them take you away'

So Fish, turned, and left his ship, full of expectations, a flower, hope and a great big Fishy smile

Fish walked to what he saw, a small town, it looked kinda fun

As he got closer the smells of the small town started to tickle his nose, although technically, Wiggi Wiggi ones don't have a nose like ours, something was being tickled, so lets call it a nose

Vanilla, lemon and fresh mown grass drifted through the air

As Fish got closer he thought about what gifts he has to bring to possible new friends

Fish loved to invent, so he would bring that gift to these new people

Fish looked at this new strange blue, white sky and the planet that was green, brown and gold

And he sang a song, 'not in the dictionary'

SONG - not in the dictionary

Not in the dictionary
Not from the area
I seem to have landed I don't know where-a

The sky is so blue
And the grass is so green
Who could have made this wonderful scene?

Not in the dictionary
Not from the area
I come from out-a-space but I don't mean to scare-a

The air is so sweet
And the earth is so brown
What a lovely planet I have found

Take me to your leader
I am not a mind reader
I come in peace, I come to learn
From the land of no return

Not in the dictionary
Not from the area
I seem to have landed I don't know where-a

My ship crash landed
But I'm safe and sound
And what a lovely place I have found

Not in the dictionary
Not from the area
I don't mean to cause any hysteria

My translator is out
So no words can come out
Oh my satellite dish
My name is Fish

The down side is I cannot talk,
Only blink and breathe and sing and walk.
My translators out and don't have spare parts
So this is where my journey starts

Take me to your leader
Even if it's a bird feeder
I come to make friends
Hope my journey never ends

Take me to your leader
I come in peace, I come to learn
From the land of no return

Take me to your leader

Eventually, after a very pleasant walk, Fish arrived at a golden gate.

Fish had never seen a gate before, so had little experience of what to do with it, just as he was about to turn around and go another way, he heard a voice 'hey chickens, come and get it'

Hugs arrived at the gate with a bucket of chicken feed. Hugs is someone you will like, he's huggable and full of optimism, you know what optimism is don't you? It's when you see the good in something. When you know something will have a happy ending

This golden gate is the way in the Mitten Garden, and that's a lovely place to be, as you will see

Hugs is the gardener here, and takes great pride in keeping the garden wild and carefree. Hugs saw Fish and said 'hey you look lost, want to be found?'

Fish nodded, Hugs opened the gate to Mitten garden and said 'well come on in, welcome to Mitten Land everything is good here, you will be fine, the grass is green, Minnie and Winnie are talking again and my chickens are looking fine and feathery'

Fish walked thru the Golden Gate into Mitten Land and Mitten Garden.

Mitten Garden has three houses. The main Mitten house is in the centre, as you will probably know, the older you are the higher you live in a Mitten house

All Mitten houses have three floors

Mitten gardens are usually wild yet everything is in its place. There is always lots of room to play. Mitten gardens are where Mittens spend most of their time as Mittens like to be in the open air, especially when there is a nip in the air.

Grass is grown in gardens, grass is very important to the mittens and it forms a large part of their diet. In a garden you will find lots of grass growing and various bits and bobs for grass growing

There are three types of grass; Wild, Domestic and Tame. The more grass you have the richer you are, although Mud and Marmalade Spray are valuable too.

From grass they get grass juice, once grass is put into the grasser, the juice that comes out looks like milk, and is similar, and of course is organic and vegan.

From grass juice all sorts of fine recipes can be made such as Smuff's.

The smuff is a mitten delicacy. Everyone eats at least one a day.

Smuff's come in three flavours; Lemon Wedgey and Futon Crouton, Heap of Stuff and Raspberry Disarray.

Smuff has the texture of dencified cappuccino froth. You role a smuff stick in the liquid (smuff juice) and then white froth grows on the stick which expands to become a smuff.

Smuff sticks are recycled in smuff boxes which are clear so you can see the smuff sticks. Smuff sticks are made from grass.

Smuff sticks are really the only cutlery a Mitten needs as it can be used as a spoon for eating anything, including soup. Or as a knife to cut up tofu.

Grass can also be used to make various objects, like Smuff sticks and boxes and many useful things a Mitten might use, can you think of any things a Mitten might need?

On Mitten day (the finest day of the year) Mittens will eat roast grass. Mitten Day takes place on December 6th each year.

Like grass, tea is very important to a Mitten and Mittens will drink plenty of tea during the day to keep healthy. There are three types of tea; Jasmine, Yasmin and Moccasin.

Tea comes from the different part of the tea plant.
Jasmine is made from the flowers and is flowery with plant undertones

Yasmin is made from the plant and has planty and rooty undertones
Moccasin is very earthy and quite a strong brew.

You usually buy three bulbs together and plant them in your grass box, waiting for grass to grow is a very exciting time for a Mitten

Mittens have their own unique way of doing things have many of their own sayings, or 'Mittenismums', and words of wisdom to help a fellow Mitten out.

Such as 'Darn it' or 'go for it, its sounds lovely, make it happen'

Mittens like to hang around in groups, and don't fair well on their own

All mittens wear smocks, which look very similar to pyjamas, although they do have pockets in them.

The smocks come in three colours, apple white, dusty pink and fairground. Fairground is any colour you want; well they are your pyjamas.

"Do you think of pink bananas, when you wear your pink pyjamas? Do you feel all warm and cudderly deep inside all juiced and lovely squished and sqooshed from your beak to your toes all squeaked and sqoose down to your toes"

The kiss is very important to mittens. You should have 3 kisses per day at least. If you do something wrong, one kiss is taken away, if you do something good another comes your way.

Young Mittens go to kissing school where they learn to kiss and how to prepare your lips and mouth for kissing and generally how to keep your mouth in good working order. Young mittens generally keep the peace, why would you want to break any rules? Mittens always keep their cool.

Young mittens are not called 'mini mittens', and would not really understand these words when put together. Another way of baffling a Mitten is to say 'put a sock in it'

In the Mitten garden you will find lots to keep a Mitten busy, you will find a washing line, in Mitten land a washing line for the mittens is more than just a place to dry clothes.
It is a place where people place pictures, images, ideas, questions, thoughts of the day and wishes.

In a garden a washing line will grow and develop and become a Mitten piece of art.

Also, in a Mitten garden you will find a slide, a swing, maybe a see saw and a paddling pool.

In this Mitten garden is a bench, Zed the traveller lives on this bench. Some people might call Zed 'homeless', but Zed knows he is at home here

A while ago he left his original home to travel and he happened upon this place. He sat on the bench and thought to himself 'you know, I never want to leave, I feel so happy and content here'

So he stayed. Time passed and Mittens were building their houses and decided to let Zed stay on his bench and built the houses and gardens round him

So everyone is happy

Zed spends a huge part of his time sleeping and dreaming, from time to time he wakes up and shares his dreams and sings the most beautiful songs about the world and its splendour

Zed saw Hugs and Fish and said 'Aw shucks, don't embarrass Zed now' and he looked intently at Fish and spoke quite firmly half nodding at the slide, 'watch out for the slide, it knows things'

Zed has his own Zedroom here, or you might call it a toilet. Generally Mittens call the toilet 'Dr. Poo', You go to the toilet and the toilet speaks to you. Tells you if something is wrong or what your body needs.

There is a little song that Dr Poo sings back to you." Toilet roll is good for the soul. It cleans your crack and puts the freshness back"

Hugs pointed out to Fish that a Mitten garden will contain lots of signs if you ever feel you are lost. In this garden, you will see signs like

Also, in the Mitten garden you might find useful signs like
'keep calm and carry on',
'don't forget your mittens'
'put some lips on your chips'
'look both ways'
'you are never too old for Mittens'
can you think of any other signs a Mitten might need?

The signs are there to keep a Mitten happy and content

'So this is our garden, and my name is Hugs you are very welcome to stay as long as you like, there's always a place for one more, let me show you around'

Song - Opening line

Hugs
If I wrote a letter to you, how would I start?
I would want it to be honest for sure, and mean it from the heart
Life here is sweet and the sky is a perfect blue
The only thing that is missing, is being close to you

Chorus
This is my opening line, hope you think I'm doing fine
We sow our seeds and we grow our grass
We live in Mitten Land,
Can you count our atomic mass?

If you wrote a letter back, what would you say?
Would you let me know, what happens in your day?
The journey between us, sometimes feels so far
If only we could be, together where we are

Chorus
This is my opening line, hope you think I'm doing fine
We sow our seeds and we grow our grass
We live in Mitten Land,
Can you count our atomic mass?

So living and loving in this Mitten garden are, on the left you will find: Ruby Wise, Minnie and Winnie and Mick and Zen,

Should I start again?

Living over in the middle house are Uncle Herb and Mrs Flood on the top floor, There's Stoned Crab and me and then Stella

Over there on the right are: Ophelia Nads, Zoe and Creation (there's a crazy combination). And of course there is Zed, and the bench is his bed

And living all around is our special friend, our automotive friend, High Tea

High Tea is the Mitten robot, of course just like his name he enjoys
making tea for all the Mittens, the tea is made inside him,

On special occasions High Tea might wear a lovely apron and surprises us with some lovely robot made cup cakes. His cup cakes come in 3 flavours: Nuts, Bolts and Rivets

They taste divine and quite unlike any cupcake you will find elsewhere. High Tea teaches young Mittens to make tea and cake

As you will see the number 3 is very important to Mittens. Most things in Mitten Land will either come in number 3 or 6.

Mittens eat 3 meals a day. Soup, Salad and a smuff.

There are three houses round the Mitten garden

The posh version of saying three is 'thrice' this might be said on
Mitten day, or if a Mitten was feeling especially fancy

There are three flavours of a Smuff

There are three important days in a Mitten week, Green Monday, Pancake Wednesday and Happy Friday

The number six is also very important to Mittens too

There are six Mitten shops. Mitten day is on December 6th

There are six Mitten guidelines
·    stay calm
·    put on your mittens
·    put the kettle on
·    make preparations for tea
·    Hope for the best
·    Enjoy it while you can

Most Mittens will wake at 6, and aim to be home by 6. But Mittens like to stay up late too, telling stories

As Mittens spend most of their time outdoors, Mitten houses can be considered to be quite functional. There are beds and pillows of course, they are essential for Mittens - and a kitchen where tea is made.

Just at that moment, Stella came out to play, and instantly she locked onto Fish with a 'wow, who's your friend Hugs?'

Now as you may know, Mittens love fingers. Some Mittens even talk with their fingers and hands, Stella is one of them, everything she says or sings she signs with her hands.

Fish saw Stella sign and was very intrigued and tried to reply,

implying he wanted Stella to repeat what she said and signed.

'Hello, my name is Stella, this is my friend Hugs, and you are?'. Fish looked perplexed, which is quite a good look actually, Wiggi Wiggi ones can carry the look off well. 'stick with me and I will teach you how to walk and talk with your hands', said Stella to Fish. Fish smiled.

This is a great place to be an age, Mittens both young, old and frayed are welcome here

Song - talking hands
Stella

your legs do the walking and your fingers do the talking
you're so special and unique, I'll love you for an hour
I'll love you for a week

How do we learn the things we want to say?
How do we get to experience feelings anyway?
If I taught you this and taught you that
would we even learn the language that we really know?
would our feelings show?

Some people lives their lives being miss-understood
Is this a choice? can't find a voice?
Out there, words find their own special place,
but hands that talk bring a smile to your face

so hold my hand, if you understand
the language of Mitten Land, is forever changing, and engaging you
to stay

your legs do the walking and your fingers do the talking
you're so special and unique, I'll love you for an hour
I'll love you for a week

so hold my hand, if you understand

Minnie Cooper and Winnie Bago arrived in the garden. Minnie and Winnie are two best friends. Can't keep them apart. Minnie and Winnie have been great friends all their lives. Like most friends they have their disagreements from time to time.
They wear pink Christmas cracker hats and they go everywhere on little motorised carriages/ wheelchairs/ scooters.

As they are fans of motorised vehicles, like cars, bikes and buses most of their language contains many references to cars and wheels and always try to find anyway they can to fit a car theme into any sentence. See if you can think of anymore to add

Minnie and Winnie saw Hugs and Fish and say 'why, hi-dee, doo-dee, can we just talk about us?' to each other 'remind me dear'
Minnie, our favourite time of day - drive time
Winnie, our favourite radio station - drive radio
Minnie, our colour would be - showroom new.
Winnie, our favourite shop - car showroom of course
Minnie, Food - would be drive through.
Winnie, our favourite band - the cars.
Minnie, writer - Caaaaarl Sagar
Winnie, designer - Stella McCaaaartney.
Minnie, TV programme - Top Gear.
Winnie, song? Drive in Saturday

The scene becomes a soda parlour.  With people at tables drinking and eating.
Winnie    I'm so strange and disarranged
Minnie    be still my beating heart, how so?
Winnie    different weekends
Minnie    (doesn't understand)
Winnie    Monday, Sunday
Minnie    (not caught on yet) no, no, slower
Winnie    when does one start and the other begin?
Minnie    (really needing her to get on with it) park it, park it!
Winnie    there's all these songs about the days of the week
Minnie    (joining in) blue Monday
Winnie    gloomy Sunday
Minnie    ruby Tuesday
Winnie    thank god its Friday
Minnie    drive in Saturday
Winnie    what about Thursday? What colour is Thursday?
Minnie    well, we know about Wednesday don't we?

Song: pancake Wednesday

hugs: every Wednesday down in the Choc-0-later in one of the Mitten Shops they serve the best pancakes in Mitten Land. Mittens come from all around to enjoy the fluffy pancakes.

It's a good job they only do this once a week or a Mitten would not get anything done. Most of Mitten town shuts down and Mittens wear special paper hats for this occasion, being very similar to the kind of hat you might find within your Christmas crackers.

generally, Pancake Wednesday is a very good day.

Song: Pancake Wednesday
Chorus
Pancake Wednesday, when will it be that day again,
pancake Wednesday, will it be that day today.

Its no secret I'm in ecstasy.
All this ice cream is here for me
To taste, to lick, to feel good inside.
These feelings I want to hide,

I wouldn't want to live this way,
If it wasn't there lemon and raspberry and cherry,
I'm getting high, I'm getting merry,
On all this ice and this feeling is nice.
Its crazy but its true I think I'm in love with you.

And you take me over the moon,
Even though you're only on a spoon.
There's chocolate and that is dandy
All I want is your iced candy.
Every day, no other way.

Chorus
Pancake Wednesday, when will it come again,
Pancake Wednesday, when will it be that day again

Announcement speaks: Ladies and gentlemen its new in town and we are the 1st to be selected, a brand new, great view, open wide, 'Icocide'

Minnie and Winnie scream in horror, silence

Fish, signs to Stella: well, why didn't they just ask for them to bring back the original flavour?

Minnie and Winnie look at each other realise they know what to do
and leave quickly to do this

Scene 5: pillow talk

Hugs: post pancakes is 'slumpy time', and most Mittens generally head for home. Mittens like being home on their gardens and there is nothing a Mitten likes more than being in bed, well perhaps for a lovely smuff, or a kiss, or a touch of marm-0-lade spray

Bed time for Mittens is a big time. The garden gate should be closed. The garden should be said 'goodnight to' especially the grass.

'sweet dreams lovely grass, may your night be calm, may your day be sunny tomorrow, and keep us all from harm'

To help keep Mittens safe in Mitten Land, Fog Horn Lil sings her low sweet song to all the Mittens. And her low call adds a layer of calm to all in Mitten Land.

Song: Foghorn

As soft and low as a foghorn goes
that's how low, my love for you goes
I only have this short time to tell you
That everywhere I go, it snows

As soft and low as a foghorn goes
that's how deep, my love for you goes
I only have this moment to tell you
That everywhere I go, it snows

And when all the Mittens are asleep, Foghorn Lil falls asleep too.

Pillows are also very important to Mittens. Pillows come from long long ago and far far away land.

Many of the pillows are 1000's of years old. Pillows love telling stories and if ever a Mitten is a but restless, all they have to do is listen very closely to their pillows.

Song: Pillow song

Pillows, pillows
telling stories of long ago
softly, their stories tells you of people and places before your time
ancient stories
whispering to you

Nobody knows where the pillows come from
but we are happy they stayed
Pillows singing softly
Telling their stories of people they have made

Hugs, well my Mitten friend, that's quite enough for one day, why don't we find you somewhere to sleep and continue our adventure in the morning. As we say in Mitten Land, 'shutters down'

Scene 6:

Zed awakes and sings his song to the garden

Song: I left my heart in San Francisco

Hugs, and as we all wave goodnight, hold your Mittens tight. As you leave, don't forget your belongings

End
